India is considering Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) for preventing collision between merchant vessels and fishing boats off the Indian coast.
As per the TSS, two lanes for opposing traffic with a five nautical miles width will be present. These two lanes would be separated by a zone of one nautical mile. This will be at a distance of about 90 nautical miles west of Karwarin Karnataka.
Leading through the south easterly direction, the lane will be at about 40 nautical miles at Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. The average distance of TSS from the coast will be about 60 nautical miles.
Besides this, safety advisories will be promulgated through satellite/terrestrial ways to all vessels as part of the scheme.
