The department of fisheries and other offices related to the fisheries sector in Kerala are becoming smarter with the state government roping in Spark linked biometric system.
The Spark linked biometric system has been envisaged so that it would provide good service to the public through e-governance. The aim is to build up smart offices and smart officers, sources said.
They said that the Spark linked biometric attendance system would help to develop a professional and efficient civil service that would be more responsible to the public. Moreover, they said that this new system would also help in imparting skills and ethics in personal as well as public relationships.
The project is being implemented by the State Fisheries department. The Directorate of Fisheries will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the project. The government wishes to implement the project within a year.
An amount of Rs 28.45 lakh has been earmarked for installing biometric punching machine and issuing biometric identity cards.
The sources said that once the spark biometric system is introduced, it would bring in more professional attitude. Though the officials in the fisheries department would be the direct beneficiaries, t5he sources said that fishermen, fisheries allied workers and the general public would be the indirect beneficiaries.
