Cochin Port records its highest growth in cargo handling

Cochin Port has registered a growth of nearly ten per cent in cargo handling during 2018-19 as compared to the figures in the previous year.

”It achieved a total throughput of 32.02 MMT with 9.89 per cent growth over 2017-18, which is by far the best in the history of Cochin Port,” port officials said.

Container throughput reached 5.95 Lakh TEUs in 2018-19, growing by 6.98 per cent over the throughput of 2017-18, which is also the highest ever.

ICTT Cochin Port has set a new record with the highest ever monthly throughput of 56,598 TEUs in March, 2019.

Cochin Port also played host to 49 foreign cruise vessels having 62,753 passengers and 28,828 crew members respectively in the year 2018-19, which is also the highest ever. In 2017-18, 42 cruise vessels visited the port.

The port handled 2.857 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in January 2019, which is the highest-ever monthly cargo handled at the Port. The previous highest was 2.825 MMT, achieved in January 2018.

The cumulative handling of cargo during April 2018 to January 2019 is 26.148 MMT, which is 8 per cent higher than the cargo handled during April 2017 to January 2018.
The ICTT at Cochin Port handled 55,953 TEUs in January 2019, which is the highest-ever monthly container handling at Cochin Port. The previous highest was 52,476 TEUs achieved in March 2018.

The cumulative number of containers handled during April 2018 to January 2019 is 482,880 TEUs which is 5.11 per cent higher than the containers handled during April 2017 to January 2018.

The Container Freight Station of Cochin Port Trust handled 391 TEUs in January 2019 which is 13.66 per cent higher than the containers handled during January 2018. The cumulative number of containers handled at Port CFS during April 2018 to January 2019 is 3662 TEUs which is 0.11 per cent higher than the containers handled during April 2017 to January 2018.
