Tamil Nadu has come up with a proposal of Rs 600 crore package for the upliftment of the villages around Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. The sixth apex committee meeting held last month took up the proposals regarding the works to be carried out in the villages of Radhapuram and Valliyoor.
The major projects that got the approval of the apex committee are of the Fisheries Department and the Public Works Department. The Thirunelveli district administration has been asked to prepare a detailed project report.
It has to be noted that the district administration has already built houses for the villagers around Kudankulam at a cost of Rs 500 crore.
Meanwhile, the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant authorities have asked the government to hold a public hearing for establishing the Away From Reactor (AFR) facility. Meanwhile, there are reports that the Public hearing would be finalised only after Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant clarifies on the quarries of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board. The Pollution Control Bopard had sought certain clarifications from the Plant authorities before holding the public hearing.
