With a faction of the Forward Seamen’s Union of India joining hands with Shiva Sena, the All Kerala Seamens Association (AKSA) has said that they would not have any tie up with the splinter group.
Talking to www.kadapuram.com, AKSA secretary Salim Parambath said that All Kerala Seamens Association was a non political organisation that stood for the welfare of the sea men. “Joining with a political party will not serve the interest of the sea men. As such we have decided not to have any cooperation with the faction of Forward Seamen’s Union of India that has now tied up with Shiva Sena,” he said.
The other day, a faction led by Naresh Birwadkar of the Forward Seamen’s Union of India had tied up with ShivaSena. He also shared a stage with Shiva Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray in Mumbai.
The Forward Seamen’s Union of India is the largest association of sea men in the country. It has to be seen that Birwadkar was removed from the union about six years ago on alleged corruption charges. Stating that the Kerala Association had earlier worked along with the Forward Seamen’s Union of India in various issues, he said that they have now decided to sever its ties with them as it has become a part of a political party. “We will stand alone and fight for the rights and welfare of sea men,” Salim Said.
