Aimed at attracting more tourists, the Odisha Government will hold a Marine Drive Eco Retreat Festival next month in Konark. The decision to hold the month long festival from December 14 was taken at a meeting chaired by state Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The festival is to be held on Puri-Konark marine drive, which is about eight kilometre from Konark. As part of the festival, temporary tents would be erected at the drive with all facilities where the tourists could stay. The whole festival will be just like the Rann festival of Gujarat.
The Chief Minister has directed all the departments to take added interest in making the Marine drive festival an international fair. The month long celebrations will have cultural festival, foods festival, water sports, adventure and 3 D mapping. The main aim of the festival was to promote Konark and Puri. Now Konark and Puri are just one day destinations. The government wants to make these places a tourist hub, officials said. They said that the government would decide whether to make it an annual festival based on the response it gets during the first edition.
