Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Pratap Chandra Sarangi said this in Parliament. He said that fish production in India increased to 13.34 million tonnes in 2018-19. He also said that the production of fish was 12.59 mt in 2017-18, 11.43 mt in 2016-17 and 10.26 million tonnes in 2014-15.
The Minister said that Andhra Pradesh had the largest fish production of 3.99 million tonnes in 2018-19. The production in Andhra Pradesh was 3.44 mt in 2017-18 and 2.76 mt in 2016-17. West Bengal was in the second place with 1.77 mt production in 2018-19.
On export, the minister said that the country saw a significant growth in the last five years. In 2018-19, fish and fish products to the tune of Rs 47,621 crore during 2018-19. Except West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh, the other coastal states showed a downward trend in exports. On financial assistance to states, he said that funds were released to the States and Union Territories as per the proposals submitted by them.
